Abstract
Cultural going global is a task that cannot be overlooked in keeping with the trends of the times. Documentary series produced by China Central Television, such as Hello, China and Festive China hold significant importance in shaping a comprehensive, diverse, and authentic image of China, enhancing the nation's cultural soft power, and promoting international cultural exchange and communication. Taking these documentary series as the subjects of analysis, this study conducts a comprehensive examination within the paradigm of multimodal discourse analysis. Utilizing the theoretical framework constructed by Zhang Delu, it delves into subtitle translation across four dimensions: culture, context, content, and expression. The cultural dimension focuses on the transformation of culturally loaded terms and the conveyance of values. The contextual dimension examines the synergy between subtitles, visuals, and audio in specific scenarios. The content dimension analyzes the emphasis on information selection and logical restructuring. The expression dimension explores the cross-cultural adaptation of linguistic style and emotional tone. By examining how multiple modalities such as text, images, and sound work in tandem to facilitate cross-cultural communication and perceive the charm of China.
