Abstract
Paralysis is caused by the body feeling the evil of wind, cold and dampness, obstruction of the meridians, incompatibility of Ying and Wei, and unfavorable Qi and blood, with the main symptoms of swelling, pain, soreness, numbness, heaviness, and limitation of movement of joints throughout the body. Dr. Zhou Dayong, the chief physician, believes that paralysis is mainly caused by stagnation of the veins and channels and poor flow of qi and blood, resulting in generalized aches and pains; the initial stage is mostly real, with evil real mainly blamed on wind, cold, dampness, heat, toxicity and stasis; the later stage is primarily deficient, with positive deficiency blamed on the weakness of the external guard and lack of the spleen and kidneys, but often both deficiency and natural are seen. Clinical treatment is based on dialectical evidence, with the initial stage focusing on activating blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and relieving pain. In the later stage, the main focus is to supplement the deficiency. Dr. Zhou Dayong commonly uses the Body Pain and Removal of Blood Stasis Soup to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis in treating paralysis and is effective in treating generalized muscle aches and pains.
