Modern Social Science Research

It has been more than ten years since the “the Belt and Road” initiative was put forward. Its construction focus has shifted from macro layout to fine implementation, and entered a new stage of high-quality development. This initiative adheres to the concept of extensive consultation, joint construction, and shared benefits, continuously promoting facility connectivity, smooth trade, financial integration, and people to people exchanges. Particularly, significant progress has been made in green and low-carbon transformation and cultural exchanges, providing important impetus for global sustainable development. However, in a period of complex evolution of the international situation, high-quality co construction of the “the Belt and Road” still faces multiple challenges, including rising geopolitical risks, increasing debt pressure, prominent environmental and climate issues, and poor docking of mechanisms and standards. This article reviews the current development status of the initiative, analyzes the main challenges it faces, and proposes targeted solutions. Research suggests that by strengthening multilateral cooperation, improving risk management, deepening green transformation, and innovating cooperation models, various challenges can be effectively addressed.
