Objective To explore the effectiveness and nursing value of the method combining traditional Chinese medicine nursing with Chinese herbal plasters and acupoint massage in controlling nausea and vomiting symptoms of patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy. Methods 86 cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in the oncology department of our hospital were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, with 43 patients in each group. The control group received conventional Western medicine nursing intervention, while the observation group received traditional Chinese medicine nursing intervention in addition, including: Chinese herbal acupoint plasters (Main ingredients include Evodia rutaecarpa, Pogostemon cablin, Ginger, Pinellia ternata, and Clove. Before applying the plasters, massage the Neiguan, Zhongwan, Shenque, Tianshu, Zusanli or Yongquan acupoints for 3 to 5) and acupoint injection (injecting metoclopramide injection into the left and right Zusanli acupoints). The nausea and vomiting grades, intervention effectiveness rate and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared. Results The effective rate of overall nausea and vomiting improvement in the observation group was 90.70%, significantly higher than 69.77% in the control group (P < 0.05). The nursing satisfaction rate and various indicators of quality of life of the observation group also showed significant improvement. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine nursing combined with Chinese herbal plasters and acupoint massage has a good therapeutic effect on improving nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, is safe and without side effects, simple and easy to implement, has good patient compliance, and can be promoted and used in clinical practice.
