Abstract
[Abstract] Objective To investigate the impact of comorbid depression on myocardial injury markers and heart rate variability following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods A total of 103 patients with coronary heart disease were enrolled between March 2023 and May 2025. Participants were assessed using the Self-Rating Depression Scale and categorized into depressed and non-depressed groups. Post-PCI monitoring of myocardial injury markers [cardiac troponin I (cTnI), creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB)] and heart rate variability (SDNN, SDANN, LF/HF). Results Among 103 patients with coronary heart disease, 38 also experienced depressive symptoms. Post-PCI serum cTnI and CK-MB levels were significantly higher in the depressed group than in the non-depressed group (P<0.05). Post-PCI SDNN and SDANN were lower in the depressed group, while LF/HF was higher compared to the non-depressed group (P<0.05). Conclusion Patients with coronary heart disease are prone to depressive symptoms. Furthermore, those with comorbid depression exhibit higher levels of postoperative myocardial injury markers and poorer heart rate variability.
