[Abstract] Objective To study the relationship between negative life events and negative emotions in adolescents, and analyze the moderating effect of parental parenting styles and the mediating effect of rumination thinking.Methods 98 teenagers from February 2022 to February 2025 were selected, the Adolescent Self rating Life Events Checklist(ASLEC) and the 21-item depression anxiety and stress scale (DASS-21) were used to investigate negative life events and emotions in adolescents.The ruminative responses scale and short-egna minnen betraffende upfostran were used to investigate the level of adolescent ruminative thinking and parenting styles. The multiple stepwise regression analysis were used to explore the mediating effect of rumination thinking and analyze the moderating effect of parental parenting styles.Results Among the 98 teenagers, 32 had parents who raised them with emotional warmth, 26 with rejection, and 40 with overprotection.There were no statistically significant difference in ASLEC, DASS-21, and ruminative responses scale scores among adolescents with different clinical characteristics (P>0.05).According to Pearson correlation analysis, the ASLEC score, DASS-21 score, and ruminative responses scale score were positively correlated with parental parenting style (P<0.05).The stepwise regression analysis showed that rumination had a statistically significant mediating effect between adolescent DASS-21 scores and ASLEC scores (P<0.05).The DASS-21 score had statistically significant effect on parental parenting style, and the ASLEC score had significant correlation with the meridian coefficient of parental parenting style (P<0.05).Conclusion There is a close relationship between negative life events and negative emotions in adolescents, with rumination playing an important mediating role, and good parenting styles playing a moderating role.
