[Abstract] Objective To study the effect of group nostalgia therapy and adjunctive drug therapy for elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) complicated with depression, and its impact on lung function and negative emotions. Methods The clinical dataes of 84 elderly COPD patients with depression admitted in our hospital from January 2023 to January 2024 were collected, and conduct a retrospective analysis.According to different intervention plans, the patients were divided into observation group (n=44, treated with group nostalgia therapy combined with medication) and control group (n=40, treated with medication),the lung function levels, anxiety and depression and quality of life status of the two groups of patients before and after intervention were compared. Results After intervention, the forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in the first second and 6-minute walk test(6MWT) of the two groups were significantly increased, which compared to before intervention, and the observation group after intervention had higher 6MWT than the control group (P<0.05).After intervention, the Hamilton anxiety rating scale and Hamilton depression rating scale scores of the two groups of patients significantly decreased, which compared with before intervention, and after intervention, the scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05).After intervention, the COPD assessment test score in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion The group nostalgia therapy assisted with paroxetine has significant effect on elderly COPD patients with depression,it helps to protect lung function, correct negative emotions, and improve patient quality of life.
