Abstract Objective To explore the effect of the health guidance and psychological care in patients with the elderly diabetic depression, providing the basis for the clinical nursing work in the elderly diabetic depression disease.Methods A total of 98 cases with the elderly diabetic depression disease who were treated in the hospital from Jan.2014 to Jun.2016 were recruited as the study objects.The patients were divided into guidance and mental nursing group (observation group) and the conventional nursing group(control group) according to the number table method,49 cases in each group. The nursing quality was compared between the two groups, mainly on the scores of the nursing quality, the negative emotions and quality of life before and after nursing.Results The comprehensive quality of nursing in nursing skills, nurses attitude, ward management and health education in the observation group were significantly higher than that in the control group, and the difference were statistically significant(χ2=16.448,P=0.021;χ2=19.136, P=0.018;χ2=21.107,P=0.016;χ2=35.004,P=0.020).The score in the observation group were significantly higher on the 3 months and 6 months after the nursing than that in the control group(t=3.496,P=0.033; t=3.885,P=0.018).The score of negative sentiment in the process of treatment and after the treatment in the observation group were significantly lower than that in the control group,and the difference were statistically significant(t=3.943,p=0.017;t=4.125,p=0.018).Conclusion Health guidance and mental nursing could reduce effectively the depression in patients with the elderly diabetic depression disease, improving the quality of life, which had the characteristics of efficient, scientific, reasonable and convenient, and has important guiding significance for clinical management of the elderly diabetic depression diseases and related nursing work.
