【Abstract】 Objective To explore the psychological defense characteristics of patients with middle and advanced esophageal cancer combined with depression. Methods 55 patients with advanced esophageal cancer and depression admitted to our hospital from January 2020 to May 2023 were selected as the combined group, and 25 patients with advanced esophageal cancer who underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy during the same period were selected as the non combined group.Compare two sets of general information and evaluate the Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ). Use Spearman rank correlation analysis to examine the correlation between SDS scores and DSQ scores in patients with advanced esophageal cancer and depression. Results The proportion of middle school education and per capita monthly income below 2000 yuan in the merged group was higher than that in the non merged group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05);The SDS score of the merged group (58.46 ±6.58) was higher than that of the non merged group (28.56±9.12), and the difference was statistically significant (t=16.629, P=0.000); The scores of projection, passive aggression, latent intention, withdrawal, somatization, social tendency, and consumption tendency in the merged group were higher than those in the unmerged group, while the scores of denial were lower than those in the unmerged group. The scores of sublimation, denial, and expectation were higher than those in the unmerged group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); The score of immature defense mechanism in the merged group was higher than that in the non merged group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05);The SDS score of patients with depression during radiotherapy and chemotherapy for advanced esophageal cancer is positively correlated with immature defense mechanisms, communication tendencies, consumption tendencies, and masking factor scores in DSQ, and negatively correlated with sublimation, denial, and expectation scores, with P<0.05 Conclusion The depressive mood of patients with advanced esophageal cancer is closely related to their psychological defense methods, and clinical attention should be focused on it.
