Abstract
[Abstract] Objective Evidence based nursing practice for preventing delirium after rectal cancer surgery, providing evidence-based support for delirium prevention. Methods Eighty-four patients with rectal cancer from February 2021 to February 2024 were randomly divided into two groups using the computerized random number table method. The control group received routine nursing care, while the observation group received evidence-based nursing care. The evidence retrieval, literature screening, literature quality evaluation, evidence consolidation, and evidence-based practice were conducted. The incidence of postoperative delirium, duration of delirium, and length of hospital stay between two groups of patients were compared. Results There were 3 cases (4.76%) of delirium in the observation group and 12 cases (28.57%) of delirium in the control group, with the observation group significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). The duration of delirium and hospitalization time in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Evidence based nursing for delirium prevention can significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative delirium in rectal cancer patients, shorten the duration of delirium, and reduce hospitalization time.
