Objective:To investigate the depression inpatient’s color preference trait and influence factors. Methods:By using HAMD chart and HAMA chart to assess the anxiety and depression level for 195 depression inpatients and 1005 healthy volunteers successively being tested with abstract colors and indoor environment color preference. The re-assessment and re-test for the same patients has been held 6 weeks after their treatment. Results: 1. The sequence of color preference frequency for depression patients is ranged from blue, green, red, yellow, orange, purple, white, grey to black, in which the color of purples preference is higher than the comparison group (Z=2.279,P=0.023)、and the color of grey preference is lower than the comparison group (Z=6.289,P=0.000). There is no difference in preference sequence before and after treatment(r=0.944, u=3.440, P<0.01).2. The sequence of indoor environment color preference frequency for depression patients is ranged from blue, green, purple, yellow, white, orange, red, white to grey, in which the color of purples preference is higher than the comparison group (Z=2.457,P=0.014), and the color of orange preference is lower than the comparison group (Z=2.835,P=0.005). There is no difference in preference sequence before and after treatment (r=0.861,u=3.128,P<0.01). The color preference degree to red and grey has been decreased after treatment. (Z=2.934、2.059,P=0.003、0.040). The color preference degree to yellow has been increased after treatment (Z=3.055,P=0.02). Conclusion: The depression patients prefer cold color (like blue, green and purple). These preferences are related to patients’ knowledge of color and their emotional states.
