Objective Exploring the impact of psychological nursing on the effectiveness of ICU intensive care. Methods Seventy patients who received intensive care in the ICU of our hospital from June 2022 to August 2024 were randomly divided into a regular care group and an intensive care group, with 35 patients in each group, using a random number table method. The regular care group provides routine care based on the patient's condition, while the enhanced psychological care group adds psychological care interventions on the basis of the regular care group, observes the improvement of the patient's condition. Results The acute physiology and chronic health status II (APACHE II) scores of the intensive care group were significantly lower than those of the regular care group after 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days of intervention (P<0.05). The incidence of complications in the intensive care group (20.00%, 7/35) was significantly lower than that in the regular care group (34.29%, 12/35) (P<0.05). After 7 days of intervention, the quality of life score of the intensive care group (87.59 ± 4.11 points) was significantly higher than that of the regular care group (72.16 ± 3.76 points) (P<0.05). Conclusion Strengthening psychological nursing interventions can effectively promote the progression of patients' conditions, reduce the risk of complications, and improve quality of life indicators such as psychological and physical functions.
