Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of antidepressant Paroxetine Hydrochloride Tablets on left ventricular function and emotional disorders in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and depression. Methods 86 cases of patients with CHD and depression in our hospital were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group, 43 cases in each group. All patients were treated with routine drugs. On the basis, the observation group were treated with Paroxetine Hydrochloride Tablets and the control group were treated with placebo. Both groups were treated for 3 months. After treatment, the left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVESD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and cardiac output (CO) were determined, and the degree of depression was evaluated. The biochemical indexes such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspertate aminotransferase (AST), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) in the two groups were detected. The changes of cardiac function before and after treatment were detected by ECG, and adverse reactions were observed. Results After the intervention, LVEDD, LVESD and LVEF were significantly increased while HAMD and HAMA scores were significantly decreased in the two groups, and the changes of above indexes were more obvious in the observation group than the control group (P<0.05). After intervention, SV, CO, E/A and CI were significantly increased while ALT was significantly decreased in the two groups (P<0.05). After intervention, the cardiac function indexes in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group. There were no significant differences in AST, BUN and SCr between the two groups (P>0.05). The total incidence of adverse reactions in the control group was 18.60% while that in the observation group was 9.30% (P>0.05). Conclusion Paroxetine Hydrochloride Tablets can effectively improve the left ventricular function in patients with CHF and depression. It can relieve depression and anxiety, without affecting liver and kidney function and without increasing adverse reactions.
