【Abstract】 Objective To investigate and analyze the mental health, coping styles and personality characteristics of grass roots soldier. Methods The Symptom Check List-90 (SCL-90), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and Eysenck Personality Questionaire (EPQ) scales were used to evaluate 362 soldiers in an armed police force. Results ① For the 362 cases of soldiers,the scores of every factor in the SCL-90 scale were significantly lower than the national norm except that of the somatization and depression (P<0.05),and the scores of the somatization, depression,paranoid were significantly lower than the norm of Chinese soldiers (P<0.05); ②The positive coping style score of SCSQ scale of the soldiers was significantly higher than that of the national norm, while the negative coping style score was significantly lower (P<0.05); ③The EPQ-E score of the soldiers was significantly higher than that of the national norm,the EPQ-N and EPQ-P scores were significantly lower (P<0.05),there was no significant deference of EPQ-L between the soldiers and national norm (P>0.05); ④The scores of EPQ-N and EPQ-P were significantly positively correlated with every factor in the SCL-90 scale and negative coping style (P<0.05),and had significantly negatively correlated with positive coping style score(P<0.05);The score of EPQ-L had significantly negatively correlated with every factor in the SCL-90 scale and negative coping style (P<0.05),and had no correlated with positive coping style score (P>0.05); The score of EPQ-E had significantly negative correction with somatization,depression, hostility, horror, total score of SCL-90 scale and negative coping style (P<0.05), and had significantly positive correction with positive coping style score(P<0.05). Conclusion The overall mental health of the grass roots soldier are better,and their personality characteristics is outgoing-stable, positive coping style is generally adopted. The coping style and personality characteristics can directly or indirectly affect the mental health.
