【Abstract】Objective: To investigate the effect of risperidone on electroencephalogram in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 200 patients with first-episode schizophrenia who were admitted to our hospital from February 2016 to February 2017. EEG tests were performed before and after taking the drug. EEG changes were recorded and abnormal EEG was analyzed. Results: Patients taking risperidone EEG abnormalities after 1 month was 40.5%, after 2 months was 46.5% EEG abnormalities were higher than pre-treatment EEG abnormalities of 11.0%; After treatment, the rate of mild abnormalities and moderate abnormalities in EEG after January and February were higher than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the rate of mild EEG and total abnormalities after 1 month of treatment compared with 2 months after treatment. However, the abnormal EEG rate after 2 months of treatment was 22.0%, which was significantly higher than that after 1 month of treatment. The rate was 10.0%, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Gender and smoking have no effect on EEG abnormalities. Logistic regression analysis showed that age> 50 years, BMI <18.5 or ≥ 30, and diabetes mellitus are independent risk factors for EEG abnormalities in schizophrenic patients. Conclusions: First-episode schizophrenia patients taking risperidone have about 40% abnormal EEG rates, but are generally mild-moderately abnormal and are not associated with medication time. We need to help patients to control body weight and blood sugar in the course of drug use in the future, and regularly review EEG in elderly patients to reduce adverse reactions.
