Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a preoccupation with imaginary or minor physical impairments. Comorbidity and multi-comorbidity of BDD and other mental disorders is common, especially depression, anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorder and schizophrenia. Patients with comorbid BDD and other mental disorders usually have the characteristics of severe symptoms, long course, poor therapeutic effect and prognosis. In clinical practice, due to the lack of awareness and attention, the diagnosis of BDD is often neglected and the treatment is not satisfactory. This article summarizes the progress in comorbidity and treatment of BDD, and provides suggestions for future research.
