Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the medical seeking behavior in Jiading local population and the migrant population with schizophrenia. Method: Outpatients with schizophrenia attending Shanghai Jading District Mental Health Center were investigated with“Questionnaire on mental health service utilization of schizophrenic patients”. Results:1、The education years of local population patients were longer than migrant population with schizophrenia，the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.01)；the proportion of married patients in the local population was significantly lower than that in the migrant population with schizophrenia，the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05); the proportion of patients with health insurance in local population was significantly higher than migrant population with schizophrenia，the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05); the two groups were not statistically different in gender, age, religious beliefs, working or not，annual income，per capita household income，course of disease and family history (P＞0.05) . 2、The difference was statistically significant in time from first visit to specialty between the patients in Jiading local population and the migrant population with schizophrenia (P＜0.05); on the other hand , the first seeking help method after the onset was not statistically significantly different (P＞0.05). Conclusion: The marital status was bad and the time from first visit to specialty was longer in Jiading local population with schizophrenia, attention should be paid to these patients ，psychiatric prevention and treatment in this area should be strengthened.
