Objective To evaluate the risk of ischemic stroke in inpatients with schizophrenia. Methods Four hundred twenty-senven randomly selected cases of schizophrenia inpatients and 427 health controls were included in the study. The inpatients were divided into stroke group and the schizophrenia group according to whether they had ischemic stroke after treatment. The study analyzed their general information and related index. The risk of ischemic stroke were assessed with the modified Framingham stroke profile (M-FSP). Results Compared with the control group, smoking prevalence, body mass index(BMI），systolic blood pressure(SBP)，fasting plasma glucose(FPG)，triglyceride(TG)，total cholesterol(TC)，the risk of ischemic stroke were higher in patient group, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C)was lower(P<0.05). Compared with the schizophrenia group,the stroke group has a higher proportion of chlorpromazine and clozapine, quetiapine, but lower proportion of aripiprazole(P< 0.05). Multivariate Linear Regression analysis demonstrated that M-FSP was correlated with FPG, SBP, HDL-C and smoking index. Conclusion The risk of ischemic stroke in inpatients with schizophrenia should be concerned about. Antipsychotics may be associated with ischemic stroke in patients with schizophrenia.
