[Abstract] Objective To observe the effect of Zhisanzhen combined with Niesanzhen on language disorder and intelligence development in children with autism and mental retardation, to analyze the treatment benefit of the therapy, and to provide basis for clinical application. Methods 110 eligible children with autism and mental retardation in the hospital from January 2017 to January 2019 were selected as the subjects, and they were divided into observation group and control group according to random number table, with 55 cases in each group. Control group was given routine comprehensive training, and observation group was treated with acupuncture (Zhisanzhen, Niesanzhen) based on control group, with 8 months of treatment. The condition of autism (evaluated by Childhood Autism Scale), dysfunction [evaluated by Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC)] and mental retardation [evaluated by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC)] in two groups were recorded and compared before treatment for 1d and after treatment for 8 months. Results After treatment for 8 months, the improvement of autism in observation group was better than that in control group (P<0.05); After treatment for 8 months, the social, sensory, motor, language and self-care scores of ABC in the two groups were lower than those before treatment for 1d (P<0.05), and observation group was lower than control group (P<0.05); After treatment for 8 months, the improvement of mental retardation in observation group was better than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Zhisanzhen and Niesanzhen acupuncture therapy based on routine comprehensive training can further relieve the condition of autism of children, improve social, sensory, motor, language and self-care dysfunction, and increase the level of intelligence, which has high clinical application value.
