Objective To explore the application effect of narrative nursing in the breastfeeding guidance of pregnant and postpartum women. Methods A total of 100 pregnant and postpartum women who gave birth in our hospital from March 2024 to March 2025 and had the willingness to breastfeed independently were randomly selected for the study. They were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 50 cases in each group. The control group received conventional breastfeeding guidance, while the observation group implemented narrative nursing on the basis of conventional guidance. The mastery degree of breastfeeding knowledge, breastfeeding self-efficacy, breastfeeding duration, breastfeeding success rate and the occurrence of postpartum depression of pregnant and postpartum women in the two groups were compared. Results The excellent and good rate of breastfeeding knowledge mastery in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, the score of breastfeeding self-efficacy was higher than that in the control group, and the duration of breastfeeding was longer than that in the control group. The success rate of breastfeeding was higher than that of the control group, and the incidence of postpartum depression was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of narrative nursing in breastfeeding guidance for pregnant and postpartum women can effectively increase the success rate of breastfeeding.
