Objective To evaluate the effect of pain management interventions on elderly patients with cholecystitis undergoing laparoscopic surgery in the post-anesthesia care unit, aiming to optimize nursing strategies and improve postoperative comfort for faster recovery. Methods A total of 100 elderly patients with cholecystitis were randomly divided into a control group and an intervention group, with 50 patients in each group. The control group received routine care, while the intervention group received pain management interventions in addition to routine care. Pain was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at 0, 6, and 24 hours post-surgery. Pain relief was evaluated based on the amount of pain medication used and pain reduction. Patient satisfaction was assessed through a questionnaire. Results The intervention group had significantly lower pain scores at different time points compared to the control group. The combined pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management in the intervention group was more effective than in the control group. Patient satisfaction was significantly higher in the intervention group (P<0.05). Conclusion Personalized pain management interventions in the post-anesthesia care unit significantly improve pain management and patient satisfaction in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
