Abstract
[Abstract] Objective To study the effects of non-convulsive electroconvulsive therapy (MECT) on hippocampal morphology and lateral ventricle inferior vein in depression. Methods Sixty-six cases of depression in our hospital from May 2018 to May 2020 were selected as the study subjects. The Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) before and after MECT treatment, hippocampal volume, maximum length, maximum diameter, and number of branches of lateral ventricle inferior vein were compared. Results The HAMD score after treatment was significantly lower than that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The volume of the left hippocampus, the volume of the right hippocampus, and the total hippocampus volume of the patients after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The maximum length, maximum diameter, and number of branches of the lateral ventricle inferior vein after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion MECT can significantly reduce the degree of depression and promote the benign changes of hippocampal morphology and lateral ventricle inferior vein in patients with depression.
