Objective To discuss the practice and effect of postoperative pain management in thoracic surgery nursing. Methods A total of 100 patients participated in this study, all of whom were admitted to the Department of Thoracic Surgery of our hospital for concurrent surgical treatment from January 2024 to January 2025. During the study period, patients were divided into groups according to the standard of nursing plan, those who received in-hospital basic nursing plan were included in the reference group, and those who underwent postoperative pain management were included in the study group, and the nursing effect was observed. The postoperative pain score, the effect of effective cough on pain, the first time to get out of bed after surgery, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results The postoperative pain score of the statistical group was lower than that of the reference group (P < 0.05). The time of analgesic use, extubation time and hospital stay in the study group were lower than those in the reference group (P < 0.05). The total satisfaction rate of nursing in the comparison group was higher than that in the reference group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The application of postoperative pain management in thoracic surgery nursing is significant, which can reduce the pain degree of patients, improve the cough efficiency of patients, promote patients to get out of bed as soon as possible, shorten the postoperative recovery time, and improve nursing satisfaction. The clinical application effect is significant, and it is worth promoting and using.
