【Abstract】 Objective:Investigating the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale scores of the elderly in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, to understand their current sleep quality and to explore the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in them. Methods: a total of 1501 elderly were tested with MMSE and PSQI. And the correlation between the scores of MMSE and PSQI was based on Multiple Linear Regression Model (MLRM). Results: There were 432 people (PSQI total score > 5 points) with sleep disorders, accounting for 28.78% of the sampling group. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the scores of MMSE in the third group of PSQI were significantly decreased (24.49 ± 4.82, P = 0.001), by using the first group of PSQI total score (26.30 ± 3.83) as the reference. The results of hierarchical analysis showed that were negatively correlated between the scores of PSQI and MMSE in women and individuals aged 60-70 (β = -0.510, Sx = 0.157, P = 0.001; β = -0.874, Sx = 0.245, P < 0.001).Conclusions: The investigation suggests that there is a negative correlation between sleep quality and cognitive function in the habitants in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, especially in women and those aged 60-70 years old.
