[Abstract] Objective To study the relationship between the characteristics of EEG and depression in convalescent stroke patients. Methods From October 2019 to October 2020, 72 cases of stroke patients in rehabilitation period in our hospital were selected as the research objects and analyzed retrospectively. All patients were examined with EEG to observe the relative power characteristics of different frequency bands in different brain regions, and to collect the general information of patients. The patients were divided into depression group and non depression group according to whether they were complicated with depression or not. Results Among the 72 stroke patients in convalescence stage, 25 cases were complicated with depression, accounting for 34.72%; 47 cases were not complicated with depression, accounting for 65.28%. Univariate analysis showed that the proportion of patients with diabetes mellitus, NIHSS score, relative power of delta wave in frontal and temporal areas in depression group were significantly higher than those in non depression group(P<0.05), and relative power of β 1 wave in prefrontal lobe, β 2 wave in frontal area, β 2 wave in temporal area and β 1 wave in parietal area in depression group were significantly lower than those in non depression group (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that diabetes mellitus (OR=2.733,95%CI=1.433~2.368), NIHSS score (OR=1.354,95%CI=1.118~1.640), prefrontal β 1 (OR=1.426,95%CI=1.201~1.693), frontal β 2 (OR=1.529,95%CI=1.173~1.993), frontal δ(OR=1.220,95%CI=1.032~1.442), temporal β 2(OR=1.738,95%CI=1.284~2.353), temporal δ (OR=1.758,95%CI=1.254~2.465)The relative power of β 1 wave in parietal region(OR=1.249,95%CI=1.126~1.385)were the independent influencing factors of depression in convalescent stage of stroke (P < 0.05). Conclusion The EEG manifestations of patients with stroke and depression are mainly the increase of relative power of δ wave and the decrease of β wave. EEG examination has clinical value for early identification of patients with stroke and depression. Diabetes mellitus and NIHSS score are also independent influencing factors of stroke and depression.
