Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of the combination of Niuhuang Jiedu soft capsules and compound sulfamethoxazole in the treatment of patients with acute tonsillitis. Methods A total of 60 patients with acute tonsillitis were included in this study and divided into two groups: the control group and the treatment group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of baseline data (P>0.05). The control group only received compound sulfamethoxazole treatment, while the treatment group added Niuhuang Jiedu soft capsules on this basis, with a treatment period of 5 days. The clinical efficacy was evaluated by assessing the symptoms of sore throat (or pain swallowing), red and swollen laryngeal tonsils, cough, fever, red eyes, dry mouth and bad breath, and dry stool before and after treatment in patients. Results At the end of treatment, the clinical effective rate of the treatment group (96.7%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (63.3%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01) after chi-square test analysis. After treatment, all symptoms in both groups improved, indicating that the drugs used had significant clinical efficacy. Moreover, the treatment group was significantly better than the control group in improving the above symptoms. Conclusion The combination of Niuhuang Jiedu soft capsules and compound sulfamethoxazole shows significant efficacy in the treatment of acute tonsillitis, and it is an effective clinical treatment plan.
