Objective To explore the role and effective implementation methods of ideological and political education in the course of “New Drug Research and Development,” aiming to enhance the teaching quality of the course and achieve the purpose of effective education. Methods The syllabus of the course was revised and the elements of ideological and political education were integrated with the content of the course to achieve the teaching objectives of ideological and political education. Objective evaluations of the teaching effects were conducted by investigating students’ exam scores, classroom satisfaction, learning interest, postgraduate entrance examination performance, and the impact on teacher-student relationships, in order to improve the teaching quality of specialized courses while achieving the goal of educating students. Results Through the ideological and political education integrated into the course, students’ learning enthusiasm was effectively improved, teacher-student relationships became more harmonious, final exam scores were satisfactory, and the postgraduate entrance examination rate significantly increased (P < 0.05). Conclusion Ideological and political education integrated into the course can significantly improve students’ performance in their academics, future planning, aspiration, and quality education.
