[Abstract] Objective To explore the occurrence of anxiety and depression in patients with peripheral vertigo and its influence on clinical symptoms. Methods Eighty patients with peripheral vertigo in our hospital from August 2021 to December 2022 were selected as the study subjects. Hamilton Anxiety and Depression Scale [(HAMA), (HAMD)] was used to assess the anxiety and depression of patients. They were divided into anxiety and depression group and control group according to the evaluation results. The vertigo rating scale (DHI) and vestibular symptom index (VSI) between the two groups were compared. The correlation between HAMA, HAMD scores and DHI, VSI scores in anxiety and depression group were analyzed. Results Thirty-two cases of anxiety and depression were detected in 80 patients with peripheral vertigo. The scores of body (P), emotion (E), function (F) and total score of DHI in anxiety and depression group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The scores of vertigo, balance, visual sensitivity, headache, dizziness, nausea and total score in the anxiety and depression group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The scores of HAMA and HAMD in anxiety and depression group were positively correlated with the scores of DHI and VSI. Conclusion The incidence of anxiety and depression in patients with peripheral vertigo is high, and there is a certain correlation with the degree of vertigo disorder and the severity of vertigo, nausea and other symptoms.
