[Abstract] Objective To investigate the incidence and risk factors of delirium in patients with respiratory intensive care unit (RICU). Methods A total of 114 RICU patients from June 2019 to December 2021 were the subjects of this study. The occurrence of delirium was evaluated according to cognitive, psychological and physiological functions, and the patients were divided into delirium group and control group according to the evaluation. The medical records such as gender, age, and disease type were compared between the two groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the risk factors of delirium. Results Among the 114 patients, 48 cases occurred delirium , and the incidence rate was 42.11%. There were statistically significant differences between the delirium group and the control group in terms of age, combined hypoxemia, mechanical ventilation time, RICU hospital stay, use of benzodiazepines, medical payment methods, family monthly income, and educational background (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in gender, marriage and residence between the two groups (P>0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age > 70 years, combined with hypoxemia, mechanical ventilation time > 3 days, RICU hospital stay > 7 days, and use of benzodiazepines were risk factors for delirium in RICU patients. Conclusion The incidence of delirium in RICU patients is high, and the risk factors include age, combined with hypoxemia, mechanical ventilation, etc. Active preventive measures should be carried out for high-risk patients to reduce the incidence of delirium.
