[Abstract] Objective To investigate the relationship between pre-orthodontic negative emotions and perfectionism in adolescents. Methods Seventy adolescent orthodontic patients in our hospital from January 2020 to January 2021 were the subjects of this study. The modified Dental Anxiety Questionnaire (MDAS) was used to investigate dental-related anxiety. Depressed mood was evaluated by Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale (11 items) (KADS-11), and divided into anxiety group, non-anxiety group, depression group and non-depression group. The general data such as Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (CFMPS), pain tolerance, body image self-assessment questionnaire (BIQ) and age were compared in each group, and the MDAS score, KADS-11 score and the above data were analyzed by binary logistic regression analysis. correlation. Results Among the 70 adolescent orthodontic patients, 30 cases of dental anxiety and 22 cases of depression were detected. The anxiety group (depression group) in the CFMPS scale of action doubt (DA), worry about mistakes (CM), personal standard (PS), parental expectation (PE) score, CFMPS total score were significantly higher than the non-anxiety group, organized (OR) score was significantly lower than the non-anxiety group (non-depression group) (P<0.05). There were significant differences in the incidence of body image disorder, gender, and pain tolerance among the groups (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in age and educational level (P<0.05). CFMPS total score, poor pain tolerance, body image disorder, and female gender were the influencing factors of anxiety and depression before orthodontic treatment in adolescents (P<0.05). Conclusion Anxiety and depression are common in adolescents before orthodontic treatment, and these negative emotions are related to perfectionism, orthodontic pain, body image disorder, and gender.
