[Abstract] Objective: To investigate the effect of ziprasidone combined with olanzapine on mental state, nerve growth factor level and QT interval in elderly patients with severe schizophrenia. Methods: A total of 82 elderly patients with severe schizophrenia in our hospital were randomly divided into the control group (n = 41) and the observation group (n = 41), who were treated with olanzapine and ziprasidone. The mental status, nerve growth factor level, ECG QT interval and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the scores of positive symptoms, negative symptoms and general psychopathological symptoms in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the serum glial fibrillary acidic protein factor (GFAP) level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the levels of brain-derived nerve growth factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the QTc and QT interval of the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions such as drowsiness, headache, nausea, constipation and dry mouth between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion:Ziprasidone combined with olanzapine treatment can effectively improve the level of neurotrophic factors in elderly patients with severe schizophrenia, improve the mental state, and will not worsen the occurrence of adverse reactions. However, the combination of ziprasidone treatment has the phenomenon of QT interval prolongation, and attention should be paid to monitoring the changes of patients electrocardiogram during the treatment.
