[Abstract] Objective To investigate the effects of anxiety and depression on intraocular pressure and adverse events after glaucoma surgery. Methods Eighty-four glaucoma patients in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2022 were the subjects of this study, and all of whom were treated by surgery. Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) were evaluated on the day after operation, and were set as anxiety and depression groups, as well as non-anxiety and depression groups. Non-contact tonometer was used to measure the intraocular pressure at 1 day, 7 days and 1 month after operation, and the incidence of related adverse events was recorded. Results Anxiety and depression were detected in 36 of 84 glaucoma patients after operation. There was no significant difference in IOP between the two groups before operation (P>0.05). The intraocular pressure in anxiety and depression groups was significantly higher than that in non-anxiety and depression groups on the 1st and 7th day after operation (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in IOP between the two groups 1 month after operation (P>0.05). The incidence of ocular adverse events in anxiety and depression group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Anxiety and depression may affect the effect of intraocular pressure control after glaucoma surgery, lead to elevated intraocular pressure, and increase the incidence of eye adverse events.
