Objective: To explore the chain mediating role of internal motivation and medication belief in social support and medication adherence in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: A convenient sample of 294 schizophrenic patients in Yangzhou City were investigated by Morisky medication compliance questionnaire (MMAS-8), medication Attitude Inventory (DAI), social support rating scale (SSRS) and internal motivation scale (IMI-SR). Results: ① Bootstrap test showed that social support, internal motivation and medication belief had a direct impact on medication compliance (P<0.01). ② The intermediary effect test showed that the direct effect of social support on medication compliance was significant, the intermediary effect of internal motivation and medication belief between social support and medication compliance was significant, and the chain intermediary effect of social support and medication compliance was also significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: social support can directly predict medication adherence, and can also indirectly predict medication adherence through the mediating effect of internal motivation, medication belief and the chain mediating effect of internal motivation and medication belief.
