[Abstract] Objective To investigate the characteristics of brain morphological changes in first episode schizophrenia (FES) on computed tomography (CT) images. Methods 37 FES patients admitted in our hospital from January 2020 to January 2021 were taken as the case group, and 36 patients who received physical examination at the same time were taken as the health group. All patients included in this study received head CT scanning. The difference of brain area, the change of the third ventricle, the correlation index of lateral ventricle, the correlation index of ventricular enlargement and brain atrophy were compared between the two groups. Results The maximum width of the body of the third ventricle, the index of the anterior horn (FHI), the ratio of lateral ventricle to brain (VBR), the minimum width of the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle, the maximum width of the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle, the maximum width of the temporal angle of the lateral ventricle (left side), the maximum width of the temporal angle of the lateral ventricle (right side), and the maximum width of the body of the third ventricle in the case group were higher than those in the healthy group (P<0.05); The distance from the right medial orbitofrontal lobe, the right superior frontal gyrus, the left superior frontal gyrus, the left frontal pole, the left paracentral lobule, the left cingulate isthmus, the distance from the lateral wall of the third ventricle to the ipsilateral insular surface (left), the distance from the lateral wall of the third ventricle to the ipsilateral insular surface (right), the ventricular central index (CMI), and the prefrontal atrophy index (PFAI) were lower than those in the healthy group (P<0.05). Conclusion The brain morphology of FES patients, such as decreased brain volume, enlarged ventricles, and abnormal brain atrophy, can provide imaging evidence for the study of FES.
