[Abstract] Objective To explore the current state of disease uncertainty after thyroid cancer surgery and the impact with coping styles and negative emotions. Methods Eighty patients with thyroid cancer in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2022 were selected for the study, and the Chinese version of the Disease Uncertainty Scale was assessed at 1 week after surgery and grouped according to the severity of disease uncertainty. We also compared the medical coping style questionnaire as well as anxiety self-assessment scale (SAS) and depression self-assessment scale (SDS) among the groups, and analyzed the correlation between them. Results Eighty patients with thyroid cancer had a total postoperative disease uncertainty score (98.17±10.72), complexity score (40.28±4.05) and uncertainty score (58.89±6.38), 19 cases were mild, 46 cases were moderate and 15 cases were severe. SAS score, SDS score, avoidance, and yielding scores were significantly higher in the severe group than in the moderate and mild groups, and significantly higher in the moderate group than in the mild group (P<0.05). Confrontation scores were significantly lower in the severe group than in the moderate and mild groups, and significantly lower in the moderate group than in the mild group (P<0.05). Sickness uncertainty scores were positively correlated with SAS scores, SDS scores, avoidance, and submission scores, and negatively correlated with facing scores (P<0.05). Conclusion Uncertainty about disease after thyroid cancer surgery is common, and uncertainty about disease can affect patients anxiety, depression, and coping styles.
