[Abstract] Objective To explore depressed mood in Menieres disease and its impact on vertigo and quality of life. Methods Eighty cases of Menieres disease patients from May 2018 to May 2023 in Anyang Regional Hospital of Puyang City were included as research subjects in this study. Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) was used to assess the patients depressed mood, and they were set into depressed group and non-depressed group according to the assessment results. Dizziness assessment rating scale (DARS), tinnitus handicap inventory (THI), and visual analogue scales (VAS) were used to assess vertigo-related symptoms. Quality of life was assessed using the dizziness handicap inventory (DHI). Results Thirty-one of the 80 patients with Menieres disease had a depressed mood. DARS scores, THI scores, and VAS scores were significantly higher in the depressed group than in the non-depressed group, (p<0.05). DHI scale somatic, emotional, and functional scores were significantly higher in the depressed group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Depression is more common in patients with Menieres disease and may exacerbate symptoms such as vertigo, tinnitus, and stuffiness in the ears, reducing the quality of life of patients with Menieres disease.
