[Abstract] Objective We investigated the residents’ empathy and analyzed its related factors to provide the basis for residents’ empathy edueation and training. Methods 180 residents were selected by random sampling，surveyed with the Chinese version of Jefferson scale of physician empathy questionnaire(JSPE), NEO Five-Factor Inventory, Chinese version perceived stress scale and general information questionnaire. Results The total score of empathy of the investigated residents was (97.18 ± 10.43), which was in the middle level;The main factors influencing the level of empathy of residents were gender, whether they had doctor qualification certificate, education background, training time and household registration type; the emotional care of empathy was significant negative correlated with out of control and neuroticism, and positively correlated with extraversion personality; transposition thinking was a significant negative correlation with nervousness, out of control and neuroticism, and a significant positive correlation with friendly personality. Conclusions The residents empathy is affected by many factors. The nervousness, out of control and personality characteristics are related to the empathy.
