Objective To observe the preventive and therapeutic effect of acupoint application of Zhiou Powder combined with western medicine on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and the improvement of TCM syndromes in patients with malignant tumors of yang-deficiency constitution. Methods A total of 60 patients with malignant tumors of yang-deficiency constitution undergoing chemotherapy were selected and divided into group AB and group BA (30 cases in each group) using a self-cross-over control design. In phase B, routine antiemetic western medicine was given; in phase A, acupoint application of Zhiou Powder was added. There was a 1-week washout period between the two phases. The grading of nausea and vomiting, TCM syndrome scores, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of nausea in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05); there was no statistically significant difference in the total effective rate of vomiting between the two groups. After treatment, the TCM syndrome score of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05), and only 3 cases had mild pruritus at the application site. Conclusion Acupoint application of Zhiou Powder combined with western medicine can effectively improve chemotherapy-induced nausea and yang-deficiency syndromes in patients with yang-deficiency constitution, with good safety.
