[Abstract] Objective To investigate the detection of negative emotion in patients with gastroesophageal reflux and its influence on reflux symptoms. Methods Ninety-six patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease from April 2020 to April 2023 at Luzhong Hospital of Peking University Medical College were selected as the study subjects. The patient's Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and Anxiety Scale (HAMA) were evaluated. They were set as the anxiety depression group and the non anxiety depression group. The general information of two groups of patients and the Gastroesophageal Reflux Questionnaire (GerdQ) were compared. The upper/lower esophageal Sphincter resting pressure (UESP/LESP) of two groups of patients were measured. Results Ninety-six patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease were diagnosed with anxiety in 6 cases, depression in 5 cases, and anxiety combined with depression in 20 cases. There was a statistically significant difference in HAMD Scale、HAMD Scale, age, course of disease, and coexisting extraesophageal symptoms between the anxiety and depression group and the non anxiety and depression group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in gender and body mass index between the two groups (P>0.05). The GerdQ score in the anxiety and depression group was significantly higher than those in the non anxiety and depression group (P<0.05), while the UESP and LESP were significantly lower than those of the non anxiety and depression group (P<0.05). The HAMD score, HAMA score, and GerdQ score in the anxiety and depression group showed a positive correlation, but a negative correlation with UESP and LESP (P<0.05). Conclusion The detection rate of anxiety and depression in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease is relatively high, and anxiety and depression may exacerbate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and esophageal motility disorders.
