Based on the theory of Eco-Translatology, this study selects Chinese and English proverbs related to “rain” as the research objects to explore the adaptive selection paths in translation. By comparing the differences in cultural images between Chinese and English “rain” proverbs, it analyzes the selection and application of translation strategies from three dimensions: the linguistic dimension, the cultural dimension, and the communicative dimension. The research shows that translators need to flexibly apply strategies such as literal translation, free translation, and cultural compensation in combination with the target language context and readers’ needs, so as to achieve a multi-dimensional balance between linguistic form, cultural connotation, and communicative intention. This study can provide theoretical support and practical reference for cross-cultural proverb translation, and contribute to the international dissemination of Chinese culture.
