Myelin sheath is a multilayer composite membrane surrounding the axon.The physiological activity of the myelin sheath of the central nervous system affects the axon communication.A large number of studies have shown that there are changes in myelin related structures and functions in patients with bipolar disorder.This paper discusses the relationship between bipolar disorder and myelin, and the possible physiological basis and influencing factors.Myelin sheath may be a pathogenic factor for bipolar disorder, and the prognosis of the disease is evaluated.
