Objective: To study the effects of paroxetine on depression and immune function in elderly patients with esophageal cancer after radical operation. Methods: 100 patients were enrolled in this study. All patients were over 50 years old. They underwent radical resection of esophageal cancer in our hospital and were diagnosed as post-operative depression. They volunteered to receive post-operative treatment in our hospital and participated in this study. The included period was from January 2015 to January 2019. Random number drawing was used as a grouping method to select the post-operative treatment method. The patients were divided into two groups according to the proportion of 1:1, namely the control group and the observation group. The control group received routine treatment and psychological guidance after operation, while the observation group received oral paroxetine hydrochloride tablets on the basis of the control group. The scores of Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) before and after operation were compared between the two groups, and the levels of immune function (IgG, IgM, CD3+ (Differentiation Cluster 3), CD4+ (Differentiation Cluster 4), CD8+ (Differentiation Antigen CD8), NK Cell (Natural Killer Cell), CD before and after treatment were compared. 4+/CD8+ ratio. Results: Before the implementation of post-operative treatment, the statistical results showed that there was no significant difference in HAMA and HAMD scores between the two groups (P > 0.05). After the end of treatment, the statistical results showed that the depression and anxiety of the patients were effectively improved, and the improvement effect of the observation group was better than that of the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the ratio of IgG, IgM, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, NK cells and CD4+/CD8+ (P > 0.05). The improvement of the ratio of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, NK cells and CD4+/CD8+ in the observation group was significantly better than that in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Paroxetine has a good effect on the improvement of depression and immunity of elderly patients after esophageal cancer radical operation. It can improve the immune function of patients on the basis of improving their negative emotions, and then achieve the goal of comprehensive improvement of treatment effect. Therefore, it is worth popularizing and applying in clinic.
