Objective To explore the influencing factors of obesity in patients with stable schizophrenia,whether the oxidative stress markers can be used to predict obesity.Methods A total of 120 patients with stable schizophrenia were included. The PANSS scale was used to evaluate the symptoms.We determined the antioxidant indexes: albumin, uric acid, hs-CRP, superoxide dismutase (SOD).Variance analysis, covariance analysis and chi-square test were used to compare the differences between the obese group and the non-obese group. Pearson correlation and Logistic regression were used to explore the relationship between obesity and clinical data and oxidative stress indicators.Results The obesity rate in stable schizophrenia was 17.5%.The PANSS negative score (F=-2.0, P=0.04), albumin (F=-3.67, P<0.01) and SOD (F=-3.16, P<0.01) in the obese group were all higher than those in the non-obese group. Pearson correlation showed that obesity was positively correlated with PANSS negative score, albumin and SOD (r=0.31-0.46, P<0.01). Logistic regression showed that SOD was a risk factor for obesity in schizophrenia (OR=0.13, P=0.03).Conclusion Obesity in patients with stable schizophrenia is related to the condition and oxidative stress index, and superoxide dismutase may be an oxidative stress index to predict obesity.
