[Objective] To investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine sedation on short-term cognitive function in elderly patients with mild depression after regional anesthesia. [Methods] From February 2018 to July 2019, 200 elderly patients with mild depression who underwent unilateral hip replacement in our hospital were randomly divided into control group and research group, with 100 cases in each group. The control group was given midazolam intravenously and the study group was given dexmedetomidine intravenously. The levels of serum S100beta protein and neuron specific enolase (NSE) at different time points were compared between the two groups. The cognitive function of the patients was evaluated by the Mini Mental State Scale (MMSE). In addition, the adverse reactions of the two groups were observed and counted. [Result] At T1, T2 and T3, compared with the control group, the levels of serum S100 beta protein and NSE in the study group decreased, and the MMSE score increased at 1 and 3 days after operation (P < 0.05). Statistics showed that there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the study group and the control group (P > 0.05). [conclusion] Dexmedetomidine sedation has a positive effect on improving the short-term cognitive function of elderly patients with mild depression after regional anesthesia, with fewer adverse reactions and high safety.
