【Abstract】Objective To investigate the correlation between adolescents with first-episode depression and serum thyroid hormones.Methods 82 adolescents with first-episode depreesion were assigned into the case group and 70 healthy adolescents were allocated to the control group. The serum level of TSH, T3, T4, FT3 and FT4 of the two groups were compared, and the patients from the case group were assessed by the HAMD-24 Scale.Results The serum level of FT3, T3, T4 of the case group were lower than that of the control group while the former’s TSH were higher than the latter’s（P<0.05）. The male patients from the case group had a lower serum level of T3, T4 than their counterparts in the control group（P<0.05）while the female patients from the case group had a lower serum level of FT3, FT4, T3, T4 and a higher serum level of TSH than their counterparts in the control group（P<0.05）. The patients from the case group’s serum level of FT3 had a positive correlation with their feelings of despair.Conclusion adolescents with first-episode depression may be relevant with the serum level of thyroid hormones. The serum level of FT3 may be the biomarker of the adolescent patients caught in depression.
