Depression is one of the most prevalent mental disorders with high disease burden, which is manifested as cognitive, emotional and physical disorders. In recent years, more and more scholars and clinicians have realized the limitations of the existing antidepressants and psychotherapy. In this context, some researchers have found differences in metacognitive function between depressed patients and healthy people, and many researches on the metacognitive function of depression has been done. They proposed a metacognitive model of depression to explain the pathogenesis of depression. This paper introduces the background and theoretical model of the research on the metacognitive mechanism of depression, and summarizes the current situation and progress of the research on the metacognitive mechanism of depression in recent years.
