Objective To investigate the effect of extended care on the complications of elderly patients with PICC catheterization. Methods The elderly patients with PICC catheterization in the undergraduate department from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected as the subjects of this study (80 cases), all of whom received unified intravenous catheterization care by the conventional intravenous therapy team. In conjunction with this study, the patients were divided into groups, 40 of whom were included in the reference group and all received single routine care. The other 40 cases included in the study group were given extended nursing on the basis of routine nursing, and the nursing effect was compared. Results The total incidence of complications in the study group was lower than that in the reference group (P < 0.05). The life quality scores of patients living ability, physical function, physiological function, social function and mental health after nursing were higher in study group than in reference group (P < 0.05). The total satisfaction rate of the study group was higher than that of the reference group (P < 0.05). Conclusion According to the study, the continuation care for elderly patients with PICC catheterization can effectively reduce the occurrence of complications, improve the quality of life and improve patient satisfaction, and has high application value, suggesting that it should be widely used in clinical practice.
