Scrotal abscess refers to a purulent disease of the scrotum, which may be caused by bacterial infections in the external environment or chronic epididymitis. The main symptoms include local redness, swelling, heat, pain, and possible wave motion in the scrotum. After the formation of an abscess, there will be obvious pain and tenderness in the local area, and as the condition progresses, pus may flow out. The causes of scrotal abscess in elderly patients may include bacterial infection, fungal infection, parasitic infection, etc. Common bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, etc. They may enter scrotal tissue through direct contact, sexual transmission, or other means and cause infection. In addition, fungal infections (such as Candida infections) and parasitic infections (such as pubic lice, scabies mites, etc.) may also lead to scrotal abscesses. In elderly patients, due to weakened immune system, they are more susceptible to these infections. This article mainly discusses the wound care of an elderly patient with scrotal abscess. After comprehensive wound care, the patient has recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
