Objective To evaluate the significance of applying a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation nursing program in the care of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in hospital. Methods Sixty-six elderly patients with COPD admitted to the hospital were selected as the observation subjects from December 2023 to December 2024. The patients were divided into groups by lottery, with 33 cases in each group. The reference group received routine care, while the experimental group was given a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation nursing program. The lung function, exercise endurance, and quality of life-related indicators of the two groups were evaluated. Results After nursing, the values of lung function and exercise endurance in the experimental group were higher than those in the reference group. The quality of life scores of the two groups were compared, and it was found that the scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the reference group, with P < 0.05. Conclusion During the care of elderly patients with COPD in hospital, the application of a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation nursing program can effectively improve the patients exercise capacity and lung function. At the same time, this form of care is significant in promoting the improvement of patients quality of life.
