Chinese folk images are bred out of the traditional Chinese culture with a long history, which is a window for the western world to understand China. The translation quality of folk images directly affects the correct understanding of Chinese folk images in the western world. Under the guidance of the Theory of Linguistic Adaptation, this thesis mainly examines the Chinese folk images in the vocabulary level and narrative perspective of language context and in the social, psychological and cultural level as for the communicative context. In the process of translating the Chinese folk images, it is necessary to fully conform to the pragmatic expression and social environment of translation, so as to accurately convey the meaning of folk images and achieve the purpose of effective communication. Chinese folk images are very complex, diversified and regional. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the transmission of folk culture connotation. We should adopt foreignization as the main strategy, domestication as the supplementary together with method of transliteration, and various translation methods should be used in translating folk images if necessary.
